Avenue Acupuncture FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Will any of the needles go into my eye?

NO! None of the acupuncture needles will come close to your eyes. The nearest points are gently placed around your eyebrows and cheekbones. You may also experience some points being utilized on your hands and feet.

Can acupuncture effectively treat both dry and wet macular degeneration?

Absolutely. For both forms of macular degeneration, our approach focuses on enhancing blood circulation to the eye, which helps to activate any dormant photoreceptor cells in the macula. This process not only aims to improve vision but also works to preserve it. In the case of wet macular degeneration, we can also help reduce the number of small leaky veins, potentially decreasing the need for injections from your doctor.

What results can I reasonably expect after treatment?

Approximately 80% of our patients experience an improvement in their vision after treatment, which can manifest as enhanced clarity in central vision or reduced fogginess or blurriness. While we can activate dormant photoreceptor cells to enhance vision, we are unable to revive those that are permanently damaged. Some patients notice a change after their first treatment, while others may need 5-6 treatments.

Is acupuncture safe for individuals with macular degeneration?

Yes. Acupuncture is incredibly safe and will not worsen your macular degeneration. The only minor side effects are related to the local needling, which may include light bruising, tenderness, or a slight feeling of fatigue.

Can acupuncture completely cure my macular degeneration?

No. There is currently no known cure for macular degeneration. Our treatments can improve vision and stabilize the effects of macular degeneration, but the condition will always be present and will always require management.

What should I expect on my first visit?

During your initial visit, we conduct a thorough assessment of your vision and overall health, including a series of eye tests to evaluate your current eye health and establish a baseline. We also review your general health to uncover any underlying factors affecting your eye condition, then discuss recommendations including supplements, exercises, self-care strategies, and a proposed care plan.

What methods are used in the Natural Eye Regeneration program?

The program combines Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, AcuNova, Microacupuncture, Laser Acupuncture, Microcurrent stimulation, Millicurrent Electro-Acupuncture, Scalp Acupuncture, Nutritional Counselling, and eye exercises, tailored to your specific vision condition.

Do the acupuncture needles go into the eye?

No. None of the acupuncture needles go into the eye. The closest points used are in the eyebrow or cheekbone area.

What happens during a free discovery call?

A free discovery call lets you see whether this approach may be a fit for your situation, whether booked online or in person. Appointments are typically seen within a week, covered by most extended health benefits, and no referral is needed.
