Avenue Acupuncture FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How does acupuncture approach treating these conditions?

Through our experience over the last 5,000 years, acupuncture treats a wide array of conditions and disorders by addressing the underlying weakness or blockage that leads to the symptom in the first place, focusing on how your body is functioning and healing rather than only on what symptoms are present.

Can acupuncture improve insulin sensitivity for PCOS patients?

Yes. Acupuncture can enhance insulin sensitivity, which helps reduce the risk of developing insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, both common concerns associated with PCOS.

How does Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnose and treat facial paralysis?

TCM differentiates the underlying syndrome causing the paralysis, such as an external pathogen blocking the channels of the face, or qi deficiency and blood stasis leaving the face malnourished. Treatment addresses these imbalances to restore function to the facial nerve and muscles.

What are the osteopathy rates?

Osteopathy rates are $150 for 60 minutes, $135 for 45 minutes, and $110 for 30 minutes. Paediatric osteopathy rates are $90 for a 45-minute initial assessment including treatment, and $75 for a 30-minute follow-up. Most insurance plans cover OSTCAN certified osteopathic treatments.

Where will the needles be inserted for arthritis treatment?

Needle placement varies by case. Some needles are placed directly into the affected joint (between 0.5cm-1.5cm deep), while others are placed in areas not close to the pain, such as the elbows for knee arthritis, a principle known as “distal acupuncture” that triggers vasodilation in the arthritic area.
