No. While pulse diagnosis is an important tool, it is rarely used alone to come to a complete diagnosis and still needs to be paired with a proper intake and physical examination. It is most helpful when differentiating between several possible causes.
The practitioner examines the pulse at six different locations on the wrist for rate, depth, strength, width, and quality. Each characteristic of the pulse signifies a different organ and area, and the issues that may affect it. For example, a choppy pulse at the distal position on the left wrist may indicate chest pain or angina due to a heart condition.
Chinese Pulse Diagnosis is a traditional technique used to identify malfunctioning organs or areas of the body by feeling the radial artery at the patient’s wrist. It has been used for thousands of years and is a convenient, inexpensive, painless, and non-invasive method of coming to a diagnosis.
