Cupping is a treatment that uses cups to create local suction on the skin. A vacuum is formed inside the cup, which is then placed on specific areas, typically the back, drawing the skin and muscles into the cup.
After the cup is left on the skin for a time, it usually leaves marks, indicating areas of obstruction or inflammation. Cupping is completely safe, and while the marks can look alarming, they’re just a sign that your body needed the treatment.
Cupping is used to increase circulation to a specific area, increase muscle mobility, relieve tension, treat respiratory conditions, break up obstructions, and help the body remove toxins. It’s most commonly used to treat muscle tension, coughs and colds, stomach problems, respiratory conditions, and swelling caused by lymph accumulation.
